A Chat About the Importance of Breast Health

by Andrea Gonzalez on June 7, 2018

Consejo Hispano and CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Oregon Latina & SW Washington Initiative, invite you to …

An important presentation, FREE and in SPANISH, on the health of our breasts and the awareness of breast cancer.

Last time there was a workshop on breast cancer, for Spanish-speaking community members, was in August 17, 2015. Venus Fromwiller, Resource Center Coordinator at CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative, gave the presentation while Consejo Hispano staff members, Gudelia Contreras and Maritza Beltran interpreted the presentation.

This year Venus and Gudelia are excited to bring a bilingual presenter, Cristela Daniel, manager of the Latino Initiative of Komen, to give a presentation in Spanish.

The Latino Initiative of Komen’s mission is to “save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. In Oregon and SW Washington, 63 women and men are diagnosed every week, 11 die. This initiative started when Susan G. Komen did not survive her battle with breast cancer. Before she died, her sister Nancy promised that she would do everything in her power to put a stop to the disease. In 1982, that promise began a global movement to end breast cancer forever. Read more about what Susan G. Komen has achieved thus far.”

CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative will also be providing information on breast health resources available in the community.

Do not miss out on this great resource! There will be child care and dinner.
