La Voz: Volunteering at Tidal Rock
La Voz de la Comunidad (The Voice of the Community), is a community group that branches off of our non-profit community organization. La Voz, was formed almost 5 years ago, with the objective to bring a platform to the Hispanic community to be able to express their concerns and needs, while also learning about existing resources and services in the area. Thanks to this group, Consejo Hispano has been able to create services and programs that the community finds essential.
La Voz de la Comunidad has been doing a community service project as a group in the summer, for the last 3 years. In the past they have helped Astoria Parks and Recreation clean up Tapiola Park & extend the playground area; last year, they helped repaint their public bathrooms. This year, after Consejo Hispano’s office move to 1373 Duane St., La Voz voted to help maintain the nearby Tidal Rock Garden adopted by local artist, Jessica Schlief. An excited group of women and children showed up to help maintain the park on Saturday (July 13th) and learn more about the historical area! Big thanks to the Blue Scorcher Bakery & Ft. George Brewery for providing snacks and drinks for these hardworking volunteers! Check out some pictures captured below!
