Literary Calaveritas Contest
In order to keep our traditions alive in regards of the Day of the Dead, The Hispanic Council of Lower Columbia, invites the Latino community to participate in our First Literary Calaveritas Contest.
Competition Rules
Participants: Spanish-speaking community of the Lower Columbia area community
Date: the writings may be delivered from October 15 to October 31, 2019
Basis of the presentation:
The skulls must be written in SPANISH on computer and signed with your name.
The work must be the original idea of the participant. Works, previously published in whole or in part, are excluded from this contest.
Texts should not include obscene or defamatory language.
The theme of the skull is open, fulfilling the characteristics of the traditional skull: coherence, rhyme, consonant and constant metric.
The skull must be composed of a minimum of 4 stanzas and a maximum of 10.
Evaluation:
The skulls will be presented in writing at the Day of the Dead celebration on November 2, 2019, at the Barbey Maritime Center from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. During the celebration, the community may vote for their favorite literary skull. The contestant who receives the most votes will receive two prizes at the end of the event: a sugar skull and a $40 certificate from local Mexican restaurant, El Tapatio.
